Funding for Equality Authority, Free Legal Advice Centres (FLAC)
The Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform Dermot Ahern told Aengus O Snodaigh (SF, Dublin SC) that the budgets for the Equality Authority and FLAC would be unchanged in 2010 at €3.2m and €98,000 respectively (Dail Eireann, Debates, 25th March 2010, 614). In the case of the Equality Authority, the government had obtained EU funding of €266,000 in 2010 under the PROGRESS programme for a multi-agency project called Promoting equality for all in a time of change – addressing the new challenges of an economic downturn. In the case of FLAC, it was a reasonable allocation when both his department and its agencies had seen significant reductions.
