Oireachtas Brief 3 May 2010

Welcome to Oireachtas Brief, an information service for social justice NGOs and voluntary sector activists interested in issues of poverty and social exclusion in the Oireachtas.

Oireachtas Brief is a new information service provided by The Wheel and the European Anti Poverty Network (EAPN) Ireland, supported by the Atlantic Philanthropies and edited by Brian Harvey.

Those wishing to read the original texts referred to in these reports should either view them on line (www.oireachtas.ie or http://debates.oireachtas.ie) or buy the daily reports from Government Publications, Mail Order Section, Unit 20, Lakeside Retail Park, Claremorris, Co. Mayo.

Oireachtas Brief Issue3 covers debates from the resumption of the Oireachtas after Easter until 6th May.  Oireachtas Brief Issue3 resumes with a theme from the last bulletin with Debates,  1, on European targets against poverty, followed by the effects of the carbon tax on low income households.  Two adjournment debates are then covered: the Dublin Inner City Partnership and personal indebtedness.  News, 2, covers regeneration in Limerick and Dublin; departmental reorganization (especially the work of the Social Inclusion Division and the National Economic and Social Forum); changes in social welfare in the area of lone parents and partial capacity benefit; and social welfare fraud.
