Administrative costs in disability services

The Minister of State at the Department of Health, Kathleen Lynch, replied to a question by Denis Naughten (ind, Roscommon – S Leitrim) on the cost of administration in the providers of disability services (Dail Eireann, Debates, 28th November 2012, 825).  She told him that the Value for Money (Value for Money) review of disability services, published this summer, found a wide variation in the of management and administration costs.  The average pay cost of management/administration was 11.1% of total pay costs, with management pay accounting for 4.4% of total pay, with clerical and administrative pay at 6.7%.  The VFM review identified significant opportunities to achieve savings in the cost base and to reduce average costs and a number of administrative areas were being progressed through the work of the national consultative forum.
