Equality for Women Measure

The Minister for Community, Equality & Gaeltacht Affairs, Pat Carey, gave details of the progress of the Equality for Women Measure (EWM) funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) (Dail Eireann, Debates, 12th OCtober 2010, 308 – 309).  Total funding for 2008-2014 was €11.5m, half contributed by the ESF.  In 2009, 36 groups received funding of €30,000 to help disadvantaged women in training, education and employment.  A second phase in early 2010 provided funding to 34 of these groups, with addition €190,000 for two entrepreneurship initiatives, with a total commitment of €2.3m to end June.  In the new 2010 call, there were 190 applications and 43 projects received funding offers of up to €50,000 each, with a total available of €1.903m per year renewable for one or more years subject to reaching targets and resource availability.
