1 News New child poverty projects: later this year

The Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Frances Fitzgerald, told Pascal Donohoe (FG, Dublin C) that 50 applications had been received for projects for area-based responses to child poverty (Dail Eireann, Debates, 18th June 2013, 421-2).  Three Prevention and Early Intervention Programme (PEIP) sites were already participating in the programme: at least three new sites were expected to participate and she stated her intention to ‘broaden the impact of the programme by beginning the process of mainstreaming some of the evidence-based programmes which have been positively evaluated and are cost-effective’.   Applications were currently being reviewed and she hoped to announce successful applicants later this year.
