2 News: LEADER and local development

The Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, Phil Hogan, told Eamon O Cuiv (FF, Galway W) that €153m would be available for the LEADER programme for rural development for 2014-2020 (Dail Eireann, Debates, 4th February 2014, 7-9).  A draft rural development programme would be submitted later this year by the Department of Agriculture, Food & Marine.  His department was holding a stakeholder’s consultation meeting on 30th January and a public consultation in Tullamore on 6th February, which, along with the report of the Commission for the Economic Development of Rural Areas, would inform the draft LEADER programme.  Following approval, his department would issue a call for strategies with a view to making allocations in the second half of this year and for the new programme to commence early 2015.   Spend on the current programme would last into 2015.

 

The Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, Phil Hogan, told Mattie McGrath (ind, Tipperary S) that he had received in December 2013 the report of the working group on citizen engagement chaired by Fr Sean Healy and he intended that it be published at an early date (Dail Eireann, Debates, 4th February 2014, 115-6). 

 

Asked about the RAPID programme, the minister told the Dail that he had allocated €1.9m in 2014, which would be overseen by the new Local Community Development Committees (Dail Eireann, Debates, 11th February 2014, 315-6).
