2 News The other lotteries

The Minister for Justice & Equality, Alan Shatter, gave details to Caomhghin O Caolain (SF, Cavan Monaghan) of the compensation given annually to charities whose earlier lotteries had been negatively impacted when the National Lottery was set up in the 1980s (Dail Eireann, Debates, 29th January 2013, 308-310).  The minister explained that the Charitable Lottteries Fund had been established in 1997 and originally drawn from the National Lottery, but was now paid by the exchequer.  Compensation in both 2011 and 2012 was €6m, the 2012 figures being as follows:
