Advisory group on tax and social welfare

The Minister for Social Protection, Joan Burton, told Joe Carey (FG, Clare) that the advisory group on tax and social welfare was currently progressing its final module on working income supports and the interaction of tax and social welfare systems (Dail Eireann, Debates, 18th September 2013, 464-5).  It was designed to see how the welfare system could best assist people through unemployment while incentivizing work and disincentivizing dependency, taking in the role of in-work supports for families including one-parent families, such as Family Income Supplement.  The report was due by the end of the year.  Later (499-500), she gave details of the group’s report, published 13th September, on social insurance for the self-employed, upon which she and her colleagues in government would now carefully reflect.
