Advisory group on tax and social welfare

The Minister for Social Protection, Joan Burton, told Caoimhghin O Caolain (SF, Cavan – Monaghan) that the advisory group on tax and social welfare had met for the first time on 30th June (Dail Eireann, Debates, 20th July 2011, 638-639).  Its task will be to deal with specific issues around the interaction of tax and welfare and to recommend how employment disincentives may be improved with better outcomes, especially for children, while identifying institutional and administrative improvements.  Family and child income supports will be prioritized.  Its programme would be based on modular reports that can be acted on within the budget, estimates and legislative cycle and allow the government to meet its IMF commitments.  Recommendations will be considered first by a steering committee of herself and the ministers responsible for children and youth, finance and public expenditure and reform.
