Arts funding

The Minister for Arts, Culture, Heritage & the Gaeltacht Jimmy Deenihan told the Dail that the government had now curbed the decline in funding for arts organizations, by giving a grant to the Arts Council of 63m in 2012 (Dail Eireann, Debates, 5th December 2012, 613-4).  In May he had announced the Philanthropic Leverage Initiative for arts and culture organizations on a pilot basis.  €230,000 had been provided to encourage organizations to seek private philanthropic sponsorship and endowment.  Those participating were required to obtain matching funding by the end of the year, but not from public sources.  It was anticipated that there would be a multiple of 3.5, with €800,000 raised.  There was also a second initiative, RAISE – Building Fundraising Capacity to provide one-to-one professional support to eight selected organizations for two years to plan and implement a tailored fundraising programme.
