Community Employment review received
The Minister for Social Protection, Joan Burton, confirmed that she had now received a copy of the review on Community Employment (Dail Eireann, Debates, 12th June 2012, 3-4). One of the reasons why it had taken so long was because there were almost a thousand schemes, with ten or twelve main types. No two were the same. One of the most important outcomes was the identification of very serious savings that could be made in such areas as administration; insurance, audit and accountancy charges; and that in some, rental savings might be possible where buildings were rented at celtic tiger prices. She added that within the scheme 1,000 places had been ring-fenced for rehabilitation; 2,200 for childcare; and 2,800 for health and social care.
