Funding for Irish voluntary organizations in Britain

The Tanaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Eamon Gilmore, told Jonathan O’Brien (SF, Cork NC) that despite the difficult budgetary situation, he was determined to maintain a significant level of funding for frontline Irish services in Britain  (Dail Eireann, Debates, 2nd June 2011, 295). Last year,  there was €8.1m funding for 128 organizations in Britain, of which 14 dealt with homelessness and the outcome of this year’s allocation would be announced in July.  Later, he told Tom Fleming (ind, Kerry S) that the funding for these homeless projects came to €857,000 in 2010 and that other grants were of benefit to homeless Irish people in Britain (Dail Eireann, Debates, 15th June 2011, 351).
