Funding for volunteering, social partnership

The Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, Phil Hogan, gave details to Robert Troy (FF, Longford Westmeath) of funding for volunteering (Dail Eireann, Debates, 5th February 2013, 35-6).  There were 22 volunteer centres, with 1% of the funding of the Local and Community Development Programme (LCDP) allocated to centres in LCDP areas.  In addition, his department also funded Volunteer Ireland and volunteering initiatives by Boardmatch, Chambers Ireland, Focus Ireland and Young Social Innovators.  The level of funding for volunteering was as follows:

2009 €3.636m

2010 €4.43m

2011 €3.139m

2012 €3.094m

2013e €2.945m

(Editor’s note: the figures given in the original reply were in thousands, but this is presumed to be a decimal error and that millions were intended).

The minister told Michael Moynihan (FF, Cork NW) that funding for the participation of community members in policy-making in the social partnership pillar, which had  commenced in 2007, would be in €560,000 in 2013 (Dail Eireann, Debates, 5th February 2013, 26).
