Joint Policing Committees

The Minister for Justice & Equality, Alan Shatter, told Jonathan O’Brien (SF, Cork NC) that he had begun a review of the system of Joint Policing Committees, which provided for participation of the voluntary and community sector (Dail Eireann, Debates, 7th April 2011, 644-5). The review would be set in the context of the reform of local government and his colleague, the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government had stated that he would soon publish a new policy on local government.  The pilot phase of the committees was now essentially over and general guidelines had been issued for each local authority to operate a committee, specifying the minimum number of meetings (but not the number of such committees).
