Philanthropy Ireland funding

The Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government Phil Hogan told Barry Cowen (FF, Laois Offaly) that his department had allocated co-funding of €1.9m over three years to Philanthropy Ireland to support the Forum on Philanthropy and Fundraising (Dail Eireann, Debates, 25th March 2014, 452-4). In 2013, €631,635 had been provided: to cover core costs, €60,000; for the National Giving Campaign, 551,635; to set up the Social Innovation Fund, €20,000.  In 2014, €315,817 had been provided.  Philanthropy Ireland had contracted Drury Communications to provide public relations support for the campaign.  The department had met the organization on 23 occasions from 21st April to 25th February 2014 to progress the forum (listed). 


The Minister for Justice & Equality, Alan Shatter, told him that his department had met with Philanthropy Ireland three times in 2012 and once in 2013 in connection with the proposed European Statute for a European Foundation; and a further meeting in 2012 on the preparation of a Victims of Crime Consultative Forum on Philanthropy and fundraising (Dail Eireann, Debates, 25th March 2014, 492).  The Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Frances Fitzgerald, told him that she had met Philanthropy Ireland on 20th January 2012 on its invitation to speak on the future of child welfare (25th March, 581).   The Minister for Finance, Michael Noonan, told him that although Philanthropy Ireland had requested meetings on three occasions over 2011, 2012 and 2013,  none had taken place due to conflicting diary and schedule commitments (25th March 2014, 178-9).  There had been no meetings with the Department for  Social Protection (25th March, 351); Department for Public Expenditure and Reform (25th March, 286); Transport (25th March, 685); Jobs, Enterprise & Innovation (25th March, 313); Foreign Affairs (25th March, 149-150); Agriculture, Food & Marine (25th March, 545); Defence (25th March, 526); Health (25th March, 638); Arts, Heritage & Gaeltacht (but a meeting request, November 2011 (25th March, 399); Communications, Energy & Natural Resources (25th March, 411)  The Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport added that he had met with the chairperson of Forum on Philanthropy to discuss the possibility of obtaining philanthropic funding for sport.
