Progressing internships and Tús

The Minister for Social Protection, Joan Burton, told Brendan Griffin (FG, Kerry S) that over 5,000 internships had now been commenced under the National Internship Scheme and 2,100 positions were now advertised on Job Bridge (Dail Eireann, Debates, 21st March 2012, 233-5).  She provided statistics detailing their age profile, educational qualifications, placements by company size and placements by sector.  She outlined the rules and regulations of the internship scheme, the agreement between the two parties and monitoring systems.

She told Charlies McConalogue (FF, Donegal NE) that the Tús scheme had progressed to the point of filling 2,922 participants and 180 supervisory positions.  Of the 52 Tús companies, 20 had filled their allocation and 12 were on course to do so by end March.  She was sure that full implementation of the 5,000 places would be achieved in the coming months (Dail Eireann, Debates, 14th March 2012, 572).
