Red Cross

The Minister for Defence, Alan Shatter, told Dara Calleary (FF,  Mayo) that his department had begun a review of the Red Cross and he expected that this would result in a Red Cross (amendment) Bill during the lifetime of the government (Dail Eireann, Debates, 18th June 2013, 162-3).  The Red Cross was established by government order in 1939 and in April 2012 he had received government approval to make substantial changes to the order.  This would reduce government representation on its general assembly from not less than a third to not more than 10%.
