Single working age assistance payment interdepartmental group

The Minister for Social Protection, Joan Burton, told the Dail that an interdepartmental group was now working on the services and supports that would be required to support the introduction of a single working age assistance payment (Dail Eireann, Debates, 12th June 2012, 9-10).  Such a proposal dated back a number of years, to the NESC report The developmental welfare state, a feasibility review in 2010 and a consultation in July 2011.  Supports and services were a necessary pre-condition for such a single payment, where there could be a significant cost factor.
